The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has advised fresh students of the institution to build a solid foundation for their lives through their actions and choices.

Fasina said only a strong foundation could guarantee stability and success, listing honesty, integrity, curiosity, love for learning and resilience as core elements. He added, “No one can escape challenges, but through resilience you can overcome and go places in life.”

According to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede, made available on Monday, the Vice-Chancellor spoke at the matriculation ceremony held in Oye Ekiti for 11,327 fresh students of the institution.

The statement added that the matriculation ceremonies were held at both the Oye Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti campuses.

In his address, titled ‘Building a House on the Solid Rock,’ Fasina advised the new students, “A house that is built on a solid rock will stand strong, while one built on the ground will fall. Let integrity guide your actions and choices.”

Describing the matriculation ceremony as a covenant with the university, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated the importance of full participation in campus life.

He congratulated the students on their admission and charged them to project the name of the institution positively.

“We know what this university used to be before I came on board, and we all know the towering status of the school now,” Fasina said.

He also expressed gratitude for the progress recorded under his administration, saying, “The journey has been smooth, to the glory of God. I have learned many things and put my trust in God.”

The new students took the matriculation oath, signifying their official induction into the university community and their acceptance of the responsibilities and conduct expected of them.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Tajudeen Opoola; the Registrar, Mr Mufutau Ibrahim; the Bursar, Dr Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna; the University Librarian, Dr Olabode Olajide; deans of faculties, staff, students, parents and other well-wishers.
