
The Abia State Government will on Tuesday, unveil its landmark 25-Year Development Plan, aimed at providing a deliberate, long-term blueprint for the socio-economic advancement of the state.
The unveiling, scheduled for 2:00pm at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, will be led by His Excellency, Governor Dr. Alex Otti, OFR.
Development partners invited to the ceremony include UNDP, PIND, PACE, PWC, AGEAC, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, student bodies, persons with disabilities, and other stakeholders.
According to the statement signed by Commissioner for Information, Prince Kanu on Monday, the plan is a landmark and visionary policy framework of the present administration and represents one of the most significant legacy initiatives of the administration, carefully designed to provide a deliberate, transformative and “long-term roadmap for the socio-economic advancement of Abia State up to the middle of the 21st century.”
The Development Plan is structured around six key pillars: people and resources, growth and stability, sustainable economy, social infrastructure and inclusion, governance and reform, and cross-sector linkages.
When fully implemented, the plan is expected to build a dynamic and inclusive economy by unlocking local potential, strengthening productivity and attracting both local and global investments across critical sectors of the state’s economy,” the statement said.
Otti’s administration emphasised that the plan also places strong emphasis on “the development of modern, climate-resilient infrastructure, including clean energy solutions, digital connectivity and sustainable urban planning.”
The government further highlighted the importance of institutional integrity, stating, “The Development Plan prioritizes strong institutional frameworks that promote transparency, accountability, citizen participation, peace, security and inclusive development.
“It is a future-ready blueprint intended to reposition Abia State on a sustainable path of growth, competitiveness and prosperity.”
The state assured stakeholders and the public of its commitment, noting that it is firmly committed to the diligent and faithful implementation of this Development Plan, which is projected to elevate Abia State to the forefront of economic well-being and development among states in Nigeria.
