Abia State |December 6, 2025 —
In a renewed expression of his political philosophy and commitment to public service, Abia 2027 governorship aspirant and prominent businessman, Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu, has stated that his motivation for seeking public office has always been driven by a genuine desire to serve the people.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists on Friday, the former Chief of Staff described service to humanity as the foundation of meaningful leadership.
Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu emphasized that leadership must begin with sincerity of purpose and must remain rooted in the welfare of the people. He noted that Abia State is in need of leaders who understand the daily struggles of citizens and who are ready to stand in the gap to provide real solutions.
“Service to the people is my driving force. It is what inspires every decision I make,” he said. “Leadership, to me, is not about occupying an office. It is about touching lives and ensuring that communities grow.”
The APC chieftain explained that his experience in public administration and business has given him a broad understanding of the challenges confronting Abia residents. According to him, governance must be practical and people centred, with clear plans that prioritize the needs of ordinary citizens.
“When you live among the people, when you interact with them daily, you understand their pains,” he stated. “That is why I believe governance must be accessible, responsive, and transparent.”
He pointed out that many communities in Abia are still underserved despite their potential for development. Mascot expressed his concern over issues such as unemployment, poor infrastructure, and lack of economic opportunities for youths.
“We have intelligent young people across Abia who are ready to work and ready to innovate. All they need is access to opportunities,” he said.
“My focus is to create an environment where their dreams can flourish.”
Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu also spoke about the importance of trust in leadership. He maintained that leaders owe the people honesty and accountability, especially in how public resources are managed.
“The people deserve leaders they can trust,” he said. “When you say something, you should be able to stand by it. When public funds are entrusted to you, you must handle them with transparency and care.”
He reaffirmed that his political ambition is rooted in a vision for a better, more progressive Abia State. Mascot Uzor-Kalu noted that his desire to contest for higher office is not driven by personal ambition, but by a commitment to contribute meaningfully to the socio economic transformation of the state.
“I am committed to working for an Abia that works for everyone,” he declared. “Every community, every youth, every woman, every hardworking citizen deserves a government that listens.”
Ending his remarks, he called on political actors, civil society, and citizens to prioritize unity and shared responsibility in building a stronger Abia.
“We must work together to build the state of our dreams,” he said. “Service to the people will always remain my guiding principle, and I will continue to stand for what is right, just, and beneficial to our people.”
