Yuletide: Embrace Traditions That Unite, Not Divide — OAU Urges Abians to Spread Kindness and Joy

ABIA |December 24, 2025 —

In the spirit of the festive season, Hon Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU), Former Abia governorship candidate and Founder of the OAU Foundation, has called on Abians to reflect on and celebrate the age-old traditions of Christmas while fostering positive relationships within their communities.

His message, made available to newsmen, emphasizes the season as a time for joy, compassion, and unity. Akym highlighted that Christmas transcends religious and cultural differences, serving as a unifying moment for people to come together and share warmth, gratitude, and goodwill.

The beauty of this season lies in its ability to bring people together,” he said. “It is a time to put aside differences, celebrate our shared values, and cherish the bonds that make us stronger as a community.

Acknowledging the challenges many face during the year, Akym encouraged the people to focus on the simple joys of the season, noting that meaningful connections, rather than material gifts, define the true essence of Christmas.

In the midst of difficulties, we can find comfort in spending time with loved ones, sharing meals, singing carols, or simply exchanging heartfelt words of encouragement,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of embodying the spirit of Christmas through compassion and generosity.

Christmas is a season for giving and showing kindness,” OAU explained. “We should reach out to those in need, creating a ripple effect of goodwill that strengthens our communities and uplifts those around us.”

Urging families and communities to embrace traditions that unite rather than divide, Akym said, “This festive season should remind us of the power of unity and togetherness. By focusing on shared experiences and mutual care, we can make Christmas a time of joy, hope, and lasting memories.”

He further advised that individuals set aside material concerns and prioritise relationships, saying, “The most valuable gifts we can give are love, understanding, and acts of kindness. These are the treasures that endure far beyond the holiday season.”

In conclusion, Onyekwere Akym Uche encouraged all Abians to celebrate Christmas with gratitude, joy, and generosity of spirit.

Let this season be a reminder of what truly matters: connecting with people, sharing in their happiness, and spreading positivity wherever we go,” he said. “By doing so, we make not only our homes but our communities warmer and brighter.”
