NUT(Abia Chapter) suspends strike, directs teachers to resume classes on Tuesday 5th july 2022.


The Abia State wing of the Nigerian Union Of Teachers has suspended the strike it embarked on monday 30th may 2022 which directed all, basically school teachers and senior secondary school teachers in the public schools in the state to proceed due to non payment of salaries and other entitlement to her members by the state Government.

The development has been a thing of serious concern to Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and other well  meaning individuals in the state who have frowned at the development and and have intervened.

Recall that the strike was embarked upon due to oustanding arrears of salaries and the poor conditions of service.

A release signed by EIder Comrade kizito A.Kalu the 
State chairman of the Union and Comrade Mrs Nnenna Okonkwo the 
State Secretary says within the space of time the strike lasted and with the intervention of his Excellency, January and February 2022 have been paid fully ,march and april 2022 salaries have been paid based on basic salaries only and may 2022 salary would be paid in full before the end of the week as promised by his Excellency. The offices connected with Basic School teachers salaries have started reconiliation on the percentage cut in order to make up the difference.
With the assurance of his Excellency that all outstanding salaries would be cleared soonest and believing in his promise , moreso with parent,other well - meaning individual who have also stepped into the matter for the sake of our children ,pupils and students and with wider consultation

The union therefore has seemed it fit to suspend the stike in order to give way for further dialogue. Sequel to that ,the strike is hereby suspended.

Teachers are directed to resume classes on Tuesday 5th july 2022.NUT Branch leadership are directed to convene a general meeting whereby members would be informed of the latest update, the release declared.
