Abia Assembly Member Anderson Akaliro Backs Engr. Chinedum Orji's Appeal for Government Action on Rising Food Prices

Umuahia, June 23, 2024 –

Barr Anderson Akaliro, a prominent member of the Abia State House of Assembly, has voiced his support for Engr. Chinedum Orji’s recent call for the government to implement urgent policies aimed at curbing the escalating food prices that are affecting households across the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Umuahia, Akaliro emphasized the critical need for immediate government intervention to address the rising cost of food, which he described as a growing crisis that threatens the well-being of many families.
He highlighted the impact of inflation and supply chain disruptions on food prices, noting that these issues are exacerbating the economic hardships faced by residents.

"Engr. Chinedum Orji has raised a vital concern that cannot be ignored. The government must take swift and decisive action to stabilize food prices and ensure that our people can afford basic necessities," Akaliro stated.
He pointed to specific measures that could be implemented, including subsidies for farmers, improved infrastructure for food distribution, and policies aimed at reducing import dependency.

Akaliro also stressed the importance of supporting local agriculture to enhance food security.
"Investing in our local farmers and ensuring they have the resources and support needed to produce and distribute food efficiently is key to mitigating this crisis," he said.

Engr. Chinedum Orji, the immediate past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, had earlier called on the state and federal governments to address the issue of rising food prices.
In his statement, Orji urged for a comprehensive policy approach that includes both short-term relief measures and long-term strategies to stabilize the food market.

With food prices continuing to
climb, the pressure is mounting on authorities to implement effective solutions that will alleviate the burden on the populace.
