In a recent statement, Hon. Barr. Anderson Akaliro, the Distinguished member representing Umuahia North Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, has made an impassioned plea for a renewed commitment to peaceful political engagement across the state.
The call comes amid rising political tensions and the need for a more harmonious approach to governance and political discourse.
Speaking at a press conference held in Umuahia, Akaliro emphasized the critical importance of maintaining peace and civility in political processes.
"In these trying times, it is imperative that we prioritize peaceful political engagement. Our collective progress as a state depends on our ability to navigate our differences with respect and understanding," Akaliro stated.
The lawmaker highlighted the detrimental effects of political violence and divisive rhetoric, urging his colleagues and constituents to embrace dialogue and collaboration.
"Violence and hostility have no place in our politics. We must reject any form of intimidation and instead, foster an environment where ideas can be exchanged freely and respectfully," he added.
In his address, Akaliro also underscored the role of the media in shaping public perception and promoting constructive political discourse.
He urged media practitioners to be responsible in their reporting and to avoid sensationalism that could exacerbate tensions.
