Ndigbo must Preserve their cultural heritage while embracing progress - Igbo World Union (IWU) President


The Igbo World Union (IWU), President, His Imperial Majesty, Sir Mishak Nnanta (KJW), Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum has called on Ndigbo to maintain their rich cultural heritage while also embracing modern advancements.

Speaking at a recent event, Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum emphasized the importance of balancing tradition with progress to ensure the preservation of Igbo identity in a rapidly changing world.

In his address, Sir Mishak Nnanta highlighted the unique cultural practices, language, and values that define the Igbo people, stressing that these should not be lost in the face of globalization and technological advancement. He urged the community to take pride in their heritage and actively engage in cultural education and preservation initiatives.

"Our culture is our identity," His Imperial Majesty stated. "While it is essential to move forward and embrace the benefits of modernity, we must not forget where we come from. Our traditions, language, and values are the backbone of our community, and it is our duty to pass them on to future generations."

The IWU President noted that the Igbo culture is rich and unique, and should be preserved for future generations. He encouraged Ndigbo to take pride in their heritage and pass it down to their children. 

The IWU President also called on parents and educators to instill cultural knowledge and pride in the younger generation. 

Recall that during His Imperial Majesty's visit to the Minister of State, for education, he advocated for the integration of Igbo language and cultural studies into school curriculums and encouraged the use of technology to document and promote Igbo traditions.

Sir Nnanta stressed the importance of embracing Progress and development. 

In his words, "it is possible to modernize without losing one's cultural identity. 
Infact, I  urge Ndigbo to strive for excellence in all they do, while still holding on to their values and traditions" he stated. 

As globalization continues to influence societies worldwide, the call by the IWU President underscores the need for cultural preservation amidst progress.

His Imperial Majesty highlighted some of the ways Igbo people can preserve their cultural heritage which includes; Promoting Igbo artists and artisans, promoting Igbo traditional music and dance, teaching Igbo language and culture in schools, encouraging the use of Igbo language in our daily lives, celebrating Igbo festivals and traditions and so on. 

The Igbo community is encouraged to find innovative ways to celebrate and sustain their heritage while embracing the opportunities presented by the modern world.
