FUEL PRICE HIKE: Umuahia North Rep, Anderson Akaliro Urges Gov Otti to Implement Work-From-Home Policy

September 10,2024 -
In a passionate appeal to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Umuahia North Representative in the Abia State House of Assembly, Anderson Akaliro, has called for the immediate implementation of a work-from-home policy for civil servants to cushion the effects of the recent fuel price hike.

Akalio's plea comes as Abia citizens continue to grapple with the economic fallout of the fuel price increase, which has led to a surge in transportation costs, inflation, and widespread hardship.

"The current situation is unbearable for our people, and we cannot afford to fold our arms and watch them suffer," Akaliro said in a statement released yesterday.
"As a representative of the people, it is my duty to advocate for their welfare, and I believe that a work-from-home policy is a necessary step to alleviate their suffering."

Akalio cited the example of the Lagos State Government, which has successfully implemented a work-from-home policy for its civil servants.

"Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has shown that with creativity and determination, we can overcome even the most daunting challenges," Akaliro said.
"I urge Governor Otti to borrow a leaf from his book and implement a work-from-home policy for Abia civil servants. This will not only ease their financial burden but also ensure that they can continue to deliver essential services to the people."
"I implore Governor Otti to take bold and decisive action to address this crisis," he added.

Akalio's call has been echoed by various stakeholders in Abia State, who have expressed support for the work-from-home policy as a necessary measure to mitigate the effects of the fuel price hike, at least till fuel price returns to being affordable.

As the situation continues to unfold, Abia citizens remain hopeful that Governor Otti will heed the call and take action to address their plight.
