Igbo World Union (IWU) Urges Southeast Governors to Adopt Work-From-Home Policy

September 10,2024 -
The Igbo World Union has called on governors in the Southeast region to implement a work-from-home policy for civil servants, following the example of the Lagos State Government.
This move aims to mitigate the effects of the recent fuel price hike on workers.

In a statement released yesterday, the union's President-General, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Mishak Nnanta (KJW) Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum emphasized the need for the Southeast governors to prioritize the welfare of their citizens.
"With the current fuel price hike, many civil servants are struggling to commute to work. By adopting a work-from-home policy, the governors can help reduce the burden on their employees and ensure continuity of government services."

The Igbo World Union cited the announcement about the Lagos State Government's work-from-home policy.
"Lagos State has shown that with the right infrastructure and mindset, government work can continue seamlessly without the need for physical presence in offices," Nnanta said.

The union urged the Southeast governors to invest in digital infrastructure and training for civil servants to ensure a smooth transition to remote work.
"This is an opportunity for our governors to showcase their commitment to the welfare of their people and embrace innovation in governance," Sir Mishak Nnanta added.

The call comes as many Nigerians continue to feel the pinch of the fuel price hike, with transportation costs skyrocketing across the country. By adopting a work-from-home policy, the Southeast governors can help alleviate some of the suffering and ensure that government services continue uninterrupted.
