Umuahia, October 21, 2024 —
Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, Member representing Umuahia North Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has called on Nigerian youths to actively participate in politics, stressing that leadership plays a crucial role in shaping the nation's future.
Speaking with constituents in Umuahia, Akaliro emphasized the importance of youth involvement in governance to influence decisions that affect their lives.
"Leadership determines our destiny," Akaliro said.
"If you relax and conclude that politics is for 'them,' the politicians will determine your future for you. As a lawyer, I could only influence a small segment of society. But as a lawmaker and representative of the good people of Umuahia North, I am able to affect and impact thousands of lives."
Akaliro's remarks come at a time when many Nigerians, particularly the youth, express disillusionment with the political process. However, he urged young people to see politics as a platform for change and an opportunity to contribute to the development of their communities.
The lawmaker highlighted the necessity for more youthful voices in governance, explaining that today's generation needs to take control of their future by being part of the decision-making process.
He pointed out that young people, with their energy and innovative ideas, can transform Nigeria’s political landscape.
"By staying out of politics, we allow others to make decisions that may not align with our hopes and dreams. It’s time for the youth to claim their space and drive the nation forward with new ideas and renewed energy," Akaliro added.
His call to action resonates with growing demands for political reform and increased participation of youth in governance, especially ahead of the 2027 general elections. Akaliro reaffirmed his commitment to policies that create opportunities for young people and support the inclusion of fresh voices in government.
