IWU President, Sir Mishak Nnanta Urges Faith Leaders to Support Members Facing Economic Hardship

October 21, 2024 --
In a passionate plea to religious leaders and affluent members of faith communities, the President of the Igbo World Union, His Imperial Majesty, Amb Sir Dr Mishak Nnanta (KJW, Ksm, JP), Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, has called for places of worship to act as economic sanctuaries for those struggling amidst growing hardship
Speaking on Sunday, Nnanta emphasized the importance of religious centers extending beyond their spiritual role to become sources of practical support for members in need.

He urged religious heads and those well-off within religious congregations to be proactive in offering help to the poor, stressing the role of faith in uplifting the less fortunate.
"Our places of worship should not just be where we come to pray," Nnanta stated. "They should also be centers of hope and economic refuge for those in our midst facing hardship."

Nnanta's comments come amid rising economic challenges in many communities, exacerbated by inflation, unemployment, and dwindling resources.
He highlighted the unique position religious centers hold, noting their direct connection to grassroots communities and their potential to create sustainable support systems for the vulnerable.

"Religion is about more than rituals; it's about love, charity, and sharing," Nnanta said.
"We have a duty to ensure that no one in our midst is left to suffer alone when we have the means to help."

Nnanta's call is expected to resonate widely, especially as many faith-based organizations already engage in charity work. However, he believes more can be done through structured efforts, such as creating community funds, offering business support, or even temporary financial assistance.

The Igbo World Union, under Nnanta's leadership, has been advocating for economic empowerment across the Igbo diaspora, and this latest appeal highlights the intersection of faith and community care.

Religious leaders are being encouraged to rise to the occasion, recognizing that their influence can extend beyond spiritual guidance to making a real impact on the economic well-being of their followers.
