Economic Hardship: Prioritize The Welfare and Development of Our Youth, Igbo World Union Urges Southeast Governors

October 14, 2024 -
In light of the growing economic challenges across Nigeria, the Igbo World Union (IWU) has called on the governors of the Southeast region to place youth development at the forefront of their governance agenda

The union emphasized that the current economic hardship disproportionately affects young people, urging leaders to focus on policies and initiatives that can empower the youth and provide sustainable solutions to their economic struggles.

The President-General of the Igbo World Union, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Dr Mishak Nnanta (KJW, Ksm, JP), Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, made this statement during a recent in a recent interview with Newsmen.
He expressed concern over the rising unemployment rates, lack of entrepreneurial opportunities, and declining access to quality education and skill acquisition programs, all of which are exacerbating the plight of young people in the region.

The Youth are the future of the Southeast and the engine that will drive economic growth,” Nnanta stated.
It is essential that the governors take urgent steps to create a conducive environment where our young people can thrive, especially in this time of economic hardship.”

Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum called on the governors to implement targeted programs that support youth entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, and job creation. He further suggested that partnerships with the private sector and international organizations could help in funding and sustaining these initiatives.
The IWU President also advocated for investment in technology and agriculture, two sectors he believes hold immense potential for job creation in the region.

Now is the time for action. Our youths are talented and hardworking, but without the necessary support, they will continue to fall victim to economic pressures and social vices,” he added.

The Igbo World Union's appeal comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with inflation, rising unemployment, and a depreciating currency, all of which have worsened living conditions for millions across the country, particularly in the Southeast. This call for prioritizing youth affairs is a reminder of the crucial role young people play in the development of any society.

As the Southeast governors prepare their budgets for the coming fiscal year, the IWU's message serves as a rallying cry for more youth-centric policies to help lift the region out of its current economic challenges.
