Tinubu University Bill: Hon Anderson Akaliro Applauds Deputy Speaker's Legislative Sagacity

October 14, 2024 -
The member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, Esq., has lauded the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for his legislative foresight and initiative in sponsoring the bill to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal University of Nigerian Languages.
The bill, which recently passed its first reading, aims to promote the study and preservation of Nigerian languages.

In his statement, Barr. Akaliro praised the Deputy Speaker for addressing a critical area of national development through education.
"The establishment of a university dedicated to the study of Nigerian languages is not just a welcome development, but a significant step towards preserving our rich cultural heritage. Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu has once again demonstrated his legislative sagacity by pushing for a bill that will not only provide higher education opportunities but also help strengthen the bonds of unity in our diverse nation."

Akaliro further emphasized the long-term impact such an institution would have on Nigeria's socio-cultural landscape.
"This university will be a breeding ground for individuals who are socially mature, equipped with the capacity to communicate in and understand various Nigerian languages. This is essential for fostering national development and creating stronger connections across ethnic divides. I fully support this initiative and commend the Deputy Speaker for his vision and commitment to promoting the Nigerian identity through language."

The bill, co-sponsored by Benjamin Kalu and eight others, outlines the university’s mission to advance learning in Nigerian languages and cultures. It also stipulates that the institution would offer opportunities for higher education without discrimination based on race, creed, sex, or political conviction, aiming to produce graduates capable of contributing to national development.

The Umuahia North Rep concluded by urging the National Assembly to expedite the approval of the bill, noting that its success would position Nigeria as a leader in promoting indigenous languages through higher education.
"I have no doubt that this initiative will receive widespread support from all sectors, as it addresses a fundamental need in our society. The time has come for us to fully embrace our linguistic diversity and use it as a tool for development. I commend Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu for his leadership in this regard."
