Igbo World Union Condemns Incessant Power Grid Collapse, Calls for Immediate Reforms

October 17, 2024 -
In the wake of Nigeria’s latest power grid collapse, the Igbo World Union (IWU) has issued a strong condemnation of the incident, calling for urgent reforms to address the country's persistent energy crisis
The power grid failure, which left large portions of the nation in darkness, has reignited debates over the state of Nigeria’s infrastructure and governance.

In a statement issued by President-General IWU, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Dr. Mishak Nnanta,Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum. He described the frequent power outages as a “national shame” at the highest levels.

Nnanta's statement reflected the deep frustration shared by millions of Nigerians who have faced frequent disruptions in power supply, which he said has stunted economic growth, hindered job creation, and diminished the overall welfare of the population.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s power crisis is a significant obstacle to realizing the nation’s economic potential.

The ongoing power crisis is not just an inconvenience—it is a threat to our development as a nation,” Nnanta said, highlighting the urgent need for the government to address the root causes of the problem. “Nigerians deserve a government that prioritizes measurable indices of development. A new Nigeria is possible.”

The IWU President’s remarks are a part of growing national pressure on the government to take decisive steps to improve the country's power sector, which has been marred by decades of underinvestment, mismanagement, and policy inconsistencies.
Many stakeholders, including the private sector and international organizations, have long advocated for comprehensive reforms to ensure a stable power supply in Africa’s largest economy.

Nnanta concluded by reaffirming the IWU’s commitment to advocating for the interests of the Igbo people and all Nigerians, urging the government to demonstrate greater accountability and vision in tackling the power sector’s challenges.

As public frustration mounts, the call for urgent reforms from influential groups like the Igbo World Union further underscores the national demand for solutions to one of Nigeria's most persistent problems.
