October 11, 2024 -
In celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, Hon. Barr. Anderson Akaliro, the representative for Umuahia North in the Abia State House of Assembly, has lauded girls around the world, particularly those in Abia, for their resilience, strength, and potential.
In a statement released today, Akaliro praised the invaluable role girls play in society, referring to them as the future leaders of Nigeria.

The lawmaker, who has been an advocate for the education and empowerment of the girl-child, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote gender equality, education, and the well-being of girls in his constituency and beyond.
He emphasized the need to ensure that every girl has access to quality education and the resources needed to achieve their dreams.

"On this International Day of the Girl Child, I celebrate every girl who dares to dream, every girl who aspires for greatness. You are not just the future, you are the present leaders of tomorrow. Our role is to support, nurture, and provide opportunities for you to excel," Akaliro stated.

He also called on the government, civil society organizations, and the private sector to collaborate in creating safe and supportive environments for girls to thrive, urging that issues such as gender-based violence, child marriage, and barriers to education be addressed with urgency.

The International Day of the Girl Child, observed on October 11, is a United Nations initiative aimed at promoting the rights of girls and highlighting the challenges they face globally.
Barr. Akaliro's message emphasizes the need for increased investment in the education, health, and leadership development of girls.

In conclusion, Hon. Anderson Akaliro expressed optimism for a future where girls are not just celebrated but empowered to lead in all areas of society, from politics to tech, business, science, and the arts.
