We Need Leaders Who'll Use Nigeria's Resources For the Benefit of All, IWU President Sir Mishak Nnanta Declares

October 15, 2024 – Abuja, Nigeria
The President-General of the Igbo World Union (IWU), His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Dr Mishak Nnanta (KJW, Ksm, JP), Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, has called for comprehensive leadership reforms to address the persistent issue of poverty in Nigeria.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Sir Nnanta stressed the need for a new generation of leaders with integrity, vision, and a commitment to economic and social justice.

The IWU President highlighted that despite Nigeria's vast natural resources, poor leadership has left many citizens in poverty.
"Nigeria has the potential to be an economic powerhouse in Africa, but the continuous mismanagement of resources, corruption, and lack of accountability in leadership has created deep-seated poverty that affects millions," he said.

Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, emphasized that the solution to Nigeria’s poverty crisis lies in a shift from the current leadership approach to one that prioritizes the well-being of all citizens, particularly the marginalized.
He argued for policies that focus on inclusive economic growth, investment in education, infrastructure, and healthcare, as well as tackling corruption at all levels of government.

"Leadership reform is crucial. We need leaders who are accountable, who will use the country’s resources for the benefit of the people rather than for personal enrichment. If we do not address this, the cycle of poverty will continue to grow, and the country will remain in this vicious circle," Amb Mishak Nnanta added.

His Imperial Majesty also underscored the importance of unity across Nigeria's diverse ethnic groups to foster development. He called on citizens, especially the youth, to actively participate in governance by electing leaders who demonstrate a commitment to tackling poverty and corruption.

The Igbo World Union, a prominent socio-cultural organization that promotes the interests of the Igbo people worldwide, has been vocal in advocating for good governance and sustainable development in Nigeria.
Under Nnanta’s leadership, the IWU has focused on fostering unity and economic empowerment within the Igbo community and Nigeria at large.

In closing, Mishak Nnanta urged current leaders to reflect on their legacy and act in the best interest of the nation, stating, "True leadership is about lifting people out of hardship and creating opportunities for all to thrive."

The call for leadership reform comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with high unemployment, inflation, and widespread poverty, exacerbated by years of instability and corruption in the political system.
