The member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro Esq., has condemned the recent attack and killing of soldiers at the military base in Ekeneobizi, Umuopara.
The assault, believed to have been carried out by suspected hoodlums, has sent shockwaves through the community and beyond.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hon. Akaliro described the attack as "unfortunate and tragic," emphasizing the need for immediate action to address the security challenges in the state.
"This unprovoked assault on our soldiers is a grave and unacceptable act. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the Nigerian Army," Akaliro said. "The Abia State govt must take urgent steps to protect the lives and property of innocent residents in Umuopara and other vulnerable areas."
The lawmaker called for a thorough investigation by military authorities to ensure the perpetrators of the attack are identified and brought to justice.
He stressed that such efforts must be carried out with a commitment to safeguarding the rights of innocent civilians.
The Umuahia North Rep also urged Gov. Alex Otti to collaborate closely with military authorities to prevent potential reprisal attacks in the area.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that only those directly responsible for the crime face consequences, while innocent residents remain protected.
"The issues of insecurity in Abia State, including the killing of security personnel, kidnapping, robbery, and car snatching, have reached a disturbing level. I implore the state government to give these concerns the seriousness they deserve," Akaliro added.
