Umuahia, Abia State –
In a bid to foster unity and sustainable development in Abia State, Hon. Emeka Obioma, Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly, has reiterated the importance of inclusive governance.
Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, the lawmaker emphasized that active participation of all stakeholders is key to achieving equitable growth across the state.
Hon. Obioma, who represents the Umuahia South constituency, highlighted that inclusive governance transcends ethnic, political, and economic divides.
He stressed the need to create platforms that ensure the voices of marginalized groups, including women, youths, and people with disabilities, are heard and factored into policy decisions.
“Abia’s strength lies in its diversity.
To move forward as a state, we must embrace a governance model that ensures everyone, irrespective of their background or status, has a say in the decision-making process.
This is the only way to foster trust, accountability, and sustainable development,” Hon. Obioma stated.
The lawmaker noted that ignoring certain groups in society would only lead to discontent and stagnation.
“When people feel excluded, it breeds division and hampers progress. We cannot afford to let that happen in Abia.
Every Abian has a role to play in building the state of our dreams,” he said.
Hon. Obioma also underscored the importance of listening to the needs and aspirations of ordinary citizens.
“Leadership is about working with the people. Leaders must interact with the grassroots to understand their challenges and priorities,” he added.
The lawmaker expressed concern about the lack of representation for certain demographics in governance, particularly youths and women.
“Young people and women are often sidelined in critical decisions that affect their future. This must change. We need to empower them, not just with words but through tangible actions like appointments, programs, and resources that enable them to thrive,” Hon. Obioma emphasized.
He also called on Abia’s political class to set aside personal interests for the greater good of the state.
“It is time for leaders to put the people first. Politics should not be about personal gain but about service.
We need to work together, irrespective of party affiliations, to address the pressing challenges facing our state,” he said.
Hon. Obioma expressed optimism about the future of Abia if inclusive governance is embraced.
“I believe Abia can become a model state in Nigeria.
But this will only happen if we come together, support one another, and prioritize inclusivity in our policies and programs. Together, we can achieve greatness,” he concluded.
