In a bid to address infrastructural disparities across Nigeria, Engr. Chinedum Orji has praised the proposed establishment of a Southeast Development Commission (SEDC), emphasizing its role in fostering national infrastructure uniformity. Speaking in Umuahia, the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly highlighted the need for a coordinated approach to address the unique challenges faced by the Southeast region.
Engr. Orji stressed that the commission would not only focus on rebuilding critical infrastructure in the region but also align developmental strides with national standards. "The Southeast has suffered infrastructural neglect over the years. Establishing the SEDC will ensure that projects in our region meet the same standards as those in other parts of the country. This is not just about regional development; it's about national equity and progress," he stated as he praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He further explained that the commission would collaborate with federal and state governments to implement transformative projects in transportation, energy, education, and healthcare. According to him, such initiatives would enhance the socio-economic prospects of the region while fostering national unity.
The proposed Southeast Development Commission is expected to replicate the successes of similar bodies like the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), addressing historical imbalances and driving sustainable growth in the Southeast region.
Engr. Orji expressed optimism that the commission would receive bipartisan support at the National Assembly, noting that its establishment would serve as a bridge to a more inclusive Nigeria. He called on Southeast leaders, traditional rulers, and youth organizations to unite in advocating for the commission, emphasizing that a collective voice would strengthen the region's position and expedite the realization of the initiative.
