Hon. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, Member representing Umuahia North in Abia State House of Assembly has called on the youth in his constituency to embrace community development and steer clear community social vices that could hinder their future.
Speaking at a community gathering in Umuahia over the weekend, the legal luminary emphasized the importance of education, skill acquisition, and positive engagement in nation-building.
Hon. Anderson Akaliro also highlighted the dangers of drug abuse, cultism, and other criminal activities, urging the youth to take responsibility for their future.
"The future of Umuahia North and Nigeria as a whole lies in the hands of our young people. It is essential that we channel our energy into productive ventures that will uplift our communities rather than destroy them," he stated.
He further emphasized the need for education and vocational training as tools for empowerment.
"I encourage every young person here to take advantage of the educational and skill development opportunities available. Whether it is formal education, entrepreneurship, or vocational training, the key to success is self-improvement and perseverance," he said.
The Lawmaker also warned against the influence of negative peer pressure and criminal activities, stressing that such behaviors only lead to regrets and lost opportunities.
"We must reject social vices like drug abuse, cultism, and internet fraud. These things may seem appealing in the short term, but in the end, they destroy lives and ruin futures.
Instead, let us embrace hard work, honesty, and dedication," he urged.
Encouraging the youth to be active participants in community building, he called for greater civic engagement.
"We cannot build a better Umuahia North if we remain passive. Our youths must take part in governance, community service, and initiatives that promote development.
Together, we can create a future filled with opportunities and progress," Akaliro added.
