World Radio Day: Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji Commends Broadcasters for Informing and Uniting the Nation

As the world marks World Radio Day today, Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji, former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, has extended his heartfelt appreciation to broadcasters across Nigeria for their unwavering dedication to informing, educating, and uniting the nation.

In a statement released to commemorate the global event, Hon. Orji acknowledged the pivotal role radio plays in shaping public opinion, fostering national cohesion, and promoting democracy. He praised broadcasters for their resilience in upholding journalistic ethics despite the challenges of misinformation and the evolving media landscape.

"Radio remains a powerful tool for communication, reaching the most remote areas and giving a voice to the voiceless. Our broadcasters have continued to play an essential role in keeping the public informed, enlightening the masses, and promoting peace and unity in Nigeria," he said.

He further emphasized the need for governments at all levels to support the media industry, particularly radio stations, by creating an enabling environment that ensures press freedom, fair remuneration for journalists, and access to modern broadcasting technology.

Hon. Orji also urged media practitioners to remain committed to professionalism, truth, and responsible journalism, stressing that the credibility of radio must be upheld in the digital age.

World Radio Day, celebrated annually on February 13, was proclaimed by UNESCO to recognize the importance of radio as a medium that bridges communities, cultures, and generations. This year's theme highlights the evolving role of radio in fostering trust, inclusion, and dialogue in society.

As the celebrations continue, Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen the media sector, urging broadcasters to remain steadfast in their mission to inform, educate, and unite Nigerians.
