Abuja, April 4, 2025 –
The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has hailed the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the removal of Julius Abure as National Chairman of the Labour Party, calling it “a new dawn for the party and Nigeria’s democracy.”
Speaking shortly after the ruling, Hon. Aguocha applauded the apex court’s ruling, which held that the Court of Appeal lacked jurisdiction to reinstate Abure. He described the verdict as a clear step toward restoring constitutional order and internal party discipline.
“The Supreme Court has spoken with clarity and finality,” Aguocha stated.
“This is not a victory for one group over another, it is a victory for due process, internal democracy, and the Nigerian people who believe in the Labour Party as a movement for change.”
He urged members and supporters of the Labour Party to remain focused, united, and optimistic, emphasizing that the ruling offers the party a chance to rebuild and reposition itself as a credible alternative.
“What happened today marks the beginning of a new chapter,” he said.
“Let us put personalities aside and embrace the spirit of progress. This is our opportunity to realign the party with the original values that inspired millions to believe in us.”
Hon. Aguocha also called for the establishment of an inclusive and visionary leadership team that reflects the diversity and strength of the Labour Party nationwide.
“This ruling is not the end, but the beginning of something greater,” he concluded.
“The Labour Party must now rise above internal conflict and prove to Nigerians that we are ready to lead with integrity, purpose, and people-first policies.”
The Supreme Court’s decision is expected to usher in a period of reorganization and healing within the Labour Party, with leaders like Hon. Obi Aguocha positioning themselves as voices of unity and renewal.
