The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has commended Hon. Collins Ugochukwu for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP), describing the move as courageous and visionary.
In a statement released on thursday, Hon. Obioma lauded Ugochukwu’s decision, saying it reflects a growing embrace of the progressive ideals championed by Gov. Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
According to him, the defection signifies a deepening recognition of the Labour Party's commitment to transparency, development, and people-focused governance in Abia State.
“Hon. Collins Ugochukwu has shown boldness and foresight by choosing to align with the light that is now illuminating Abia State,” Obioma said.
“His move is not just a political shift, it’s a stand for progress, good governance, and the collective will of our people under the transformational leadership of Gov Alex Otti.”
Obioma emphasized that the Labour Party represents a new era of accountability and citizen-centered governance. He warmly welcomed Ugochukwu into the fold and called on other leaders to put the people first.
“We believe his defection will strengthen the Labour Party’s influence in the state legislature and boost our capacity to deliver policies that truly benefit Abians,” he added.
In a message urging unity and compassion in leadership, the Chief Whip said, “When faced with the choice between being right and being kind, always choose kindness.
It is through kindness that we foster unity and progress.”
Hon. Obioma concluded by calling on other political stakeholders to join hands with the Labour Party in advancing the administration’s agenda and securing a brighter future for Abia State.
