The Igbo World Union (IWU) has honoured and celebrated the extraordinary achievement of 15-year-old Nigerian artist, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, who has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest painting on canvas.
The unveiling of the artwork, titled “Impossible is a Myth”, took place at Eagle Square, Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2025 World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD).
Kanyeyachukwu, who is autistic, stunned the world with his breathtaking work measuring an astonishing 12,303.87 square meters, making it the largest painting on canvas ever recorded.
The momentous feat has been hailed not only as an artistic triumph but also as a powerful testament to the boundless potential of individuals on the autism spectrum.
In a statement issued by the President-General of the Igbo World Union, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Dr. Mishak Nnanta, KJW, Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, he expressed deep admiration for the young artist’s courage, talent, and determination.
“You said, ‘Impossibility is a myth,’ and you set out to prove that impossibility was nothing when you created the largest art canvas in the world at 12,303.87 square meters,” Nnanta said. “You are Brave, Audacious, and Tenacious. Your story has made history, and Nigeria is proud of you, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke.”
Amb. Nnanta emphasized that Kanyeyachukwu's achievement sends a clear message to the world: that neurodivergent individuals possess untapped and profound capabilities that must be acknowledged, nurtured, and celebrated.
“Let this historic moment serve as a clarion call for greater inclusivity, understanding, and support for people with autism,” Nnanta added. “Kanyeyachukwu has proven that autism is not a limitation, but a different lens through which greatness can be achieved.”
The record-breaking event attracted attention from art lovers, autism advocates, and world leaders, sparking conversations about inclusivity in the creative industry and the broader society. The painting, vibrant with themes of hope, resilience, and dreams realized, stands as a lasting tribute to the power of vision and determination.
Kanyeyachukwu, who began painting at a young age, has consistently defied expectations.
