“Collect Illegal Fees and Lose Your Job” - Abia State Govt to Principals

The Abia State Government has issued a strong warning to principals and heads of public schools, declaring that anyone caught collecting unauthorized fees will face dismissal.

This firm stance was announced by the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting held in Umuahia.

Reiterating the govt’s commitment to its free education policy, Prince Kanu emphasized that all public schools in Abia State must offer free education from primary level to Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3).

For Senior Secondary School students (SS1 to SS3), he clarified that only a subsidized tuition fee of N3,300 is required.

No principal or head teacher has the right to extort money from students or parents. Anyone found guilty of such acts will be sanctioned appropriately, including possible dismissal from service,” he stated.

He urged school heads to align with the government’s vision of accessible and affordable education for all children in the state.

In a related development, Prince Kanu also revealed that the state is preparing to launch a new economic and business policy framework.

This initiative is designed to boost local production by promoting Made-in-Abia goods and supporting indigenous entrepreneurs.

According to him, the new policy is part of Gov Alex Otti’s comprehensive plan to drive economic growth, generate employment, and foster sustainable development in the state.
