Abuja, Nigeria – April 10, 2025
The former presidential candidate (LP) and Ex Anambra State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, has publicly commended Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, for what he described as a “bold and courageous stand” in defense of Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking during the Labour Party National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja yesterday, Mr. Obi described Hon. Aguocha as “a lonely but unwavering voice” in the National Assembly, whose fearless advocacy for justice, accountability, and good governance has not gone unnoticed.
“Hon. Obi Aguocha has chosen the path of courage and conviction,” Obi said.
“He stands firm as a beacon of hope and integrity, championing the cause of the people even when it is inconvenient. Nigeria needs more leaders like him, men and women who will not be bought or intimidated, but who will speak truth to power in defense of democracy and justice.”
Peter Obi also noted that Aguocha’s recent efforts in the chambers, where he openly criticized undemocratic actions and stood in solidarity with the Nigerian people, were testaments to his sincerity and loyalty to the democratic process.
In response to the commendation, Hon. Obi Aguocha expressed deep appreciation to Mr. Peter Obi, describing the former governor as a man of conscience whose words serve as both an encouragement and a call to remain steadfast.
“I am deeply humbled by Mr. Peter Obi’s kind words,” Aguocha stated.
“To be recognized by a leader of such national and moral stature strengthens my resolve. I have always believed that democracy thrives when we speak up, even when we stand alone and when we place the people above personal gain.”
He further pledged to continue using his voice and position to defend democratic ideals, advocate for equity and fairness, and push for reforms that benefit the Nigerian people.
“This is not a personal struggle; it is a collective mission for a better Nigeria,” Aguocha added. “We must never let fear or political pressure silence us. If I must be the lone voice in the wilderness, then so be it, as long as I speak for truth and justice.”
The rare public acknowledgment has sparked praises across social media and political circles, with many Nigerians lauding both men for their principled stance and unwavering commitment to national progress.
As the country continues to face economic, social, and political challenges, voices like Obi’s and Aguocha’s remain crucial in fostering hope, accountability, and the promise of a better future for all.
