As Governor Ahmed Aliyu marks his two years in office, his administration has been commended for fostering political stability and social cohesion in Sokoto State, even as calls mount for improved efforts in water supply and security.
A political commentator and public affairs analyst, Yusuf Abubakar Dingyadi, in a reflective statement issued in Sokoto on Monday, praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as “excellent performance in ensuring political cohesion and stability,” despite facing criticism on various fronts.
“Despite his shortcomings in some sectors, Governor Aliyu has done better than many of those attacking him on social media,” Dingyadi said.
“His achievements in beautification, township roads construction, school rehabilitation, public health services, and innovative governance approaches have set a solid foundation for Sokoto’s future.”
The political commentator urged critics to move beyond what he termed “mudslinging and mischief,” noting that the use of abusive language against public officials undermines democratic institutions and misrepresents the people of the state.
When we attack our leaders with disrespect, we not only damage their image but also insult the collective dignity of our society,” he stated.
On the issue of insecurity, the public affairs commentator warned against politicising the matter, stating that insecurity affects everyone regardless of political affiliation.
He called for a unified front in tackling the menace and urged the state government to work more closely with federal authorities to restore peace, particularly in the eastern parts of the state.
However, he did not shy away from pointing out areas needing urgent attention.
“The governor must double his efforts in tackling the state’s persistent water shortage and security challenges. These remain the most pressing concerns for many residents of the state capital and its environs,” he added.
Dingyadi concluded by calling on all stakeholders and citizens to prioritise Sokoto State’s interest above partisan considerations, emphasising that unity and mutual respect are vital ingredients for progress and sustainable development.
