A prominent clergy in Abia State Rev. Blessed Amalambu has urged Christian leaders to heel the advocacy of Barr. Emmanuel Ihim, as a clarion call to participate actively in politics and governance

Amalambu made the statement while speaking with our correspondent inUmuahia, Abia State, on the Christian Citizenship Network Summit, which was recently held at the weekend in Umuahia.

The summit was convened to mobilise Christian communities towards greater involvement in civic responsibility, moral leadership, and political engagement. It attracted faith leaders, clergy, community members, youth representatives, and government officials.

He explained that God’s original plan was for His children to manage and govern the earth in line with divine principles, He noted that from the Old Testament, priests, prophets, and kings were God’s chosen vessels to ensure righteous governance, stressing that only righteousness can exalt a nation and that ungodly rulers inevitably make laws that bring frustration and sorrow to the people.

Amalambu, who is the outgoing Southeast Zonal Assistant Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, outgoing Secretary of PFN Abia State, an executive member of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Abia State chapter, and General Overseer of Christ Generation Ministry Inc., headquartered in Umuahia, emphasised that politics is simply the process of choosing leaders.

He said, “Many Christians were wrongly taught in earlier generations to avoid political participation, which left governance largely in the hands of people without knowledge of God’s laws.

At the Christian Citizenship Network Summit, speakers highlighted the role of Christians in shaping policy, mentoring the next generation of leaders, and providing moral guidance in governance. Discussions also focused on voter education and the need for believers to play active roles in both elective and appointive positions

Amalambu observed that the summit underscored the urgency of Christians reclaiming their responsibility as salt and light of the world, stressing that the church must no longer remain apolitical if Nigeria is to experience godly leadership.

He pointed out that Ihim’s advocacy for greater Christian involvement in politics aligns with the scriptural injunction in Isaiah 9:6, which declares that the government shall be upon the shoulders of God’s people. He maintained that the Kingdom of God is built on righteousness, justice, and truth, and only Christians committed to these values can enact laws and policies that will usher in blessings to society.

The summit also received commendation from Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who described it as a timely platform for advancing moral leadership and civic responsibility. Resolutions reached at the gathering included commitments to organise voter education drives, train and mentor Christian youth for political roles, and ensure that laws and policies are monitored against principles of justice and righteousness.

Amalambu maintained that as long as Christians and church leaders shy away from governance, the nation will continue to grapple with corrupt systems. However, he expressed optimism that with renewed commitment inspired by the summit and by voices like Ihim’s, Nigeria can begin to nurture leaders of integrity who will provide direction anchored on godly values.
