Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, Member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has marked his two years in office with a comprehensive account of his legislative achievements and grassroots interventions.

Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, Hon. Akaliro expressed gratitude to his constituents for their continued trust and pledged to redouble his efforts toward building a constituency anchored on accountability, service, and development.

Two years ago, I made a vow to serve with integrity, focus, and compassion. Today, I come before you not with promises, but with results. Our work is visible, our projects are ongoing, and Umuahia North is rising,” he said.

The lawmaker highlighted his numerous interventions across critical sectors. In education, he has sponsored the Ohuhu Spelling Bee competition for two consecutive years, offering prizes worth millions of naira to encourage academic excellence. He also registered and sponsored over 300 students for JAMB and WAEC examinations, in addition to providing scholarships and grants for undergraduates across the constituency.
Education remains the bedrock of development, and that is why we have invested heavily in supporting our students. From JAMB and WAEC sponsorships to scholarships for undergraduates, we are ensuring that no child is left behind,” Akaliro explained.

On infrastructure, the Umuahia North lawmaker attracted the Federal Government Civil Defense Headquarters to Nkata Nkwoegwu, initiated the building of the first-ever High Court in Ohuhu, and revived the Afor Umuda Market, transforming it into a modern market with lock-up shops. He also commenced the retrofitting of three community halls, including the Umuezehiri Hall.

Even as an opposition legislator, I have proven that development knows no party. What matters is the will to deliver and the courage to attract projects that change lives. That is why we are building the first High Court in Ohuhu and reviving moribund markets to boost economic activity,” he noted.
Hon. Akaliro also emphasized his empowerment programs for women, youths, and special citizens. These include health outreaches, business support initiatives, skill acquisition training, and structured assistance to the elderly and physically challenged—the first of its kind in the constituency’s recent history.
Our constituency is blessed with hardworking women, vibrant youths, and resilient elders. Through empowerment programs, skills acquisition, and direct support, we are giving them tools to thrive. No group in our society will be forgotten under my watch,” he assured.

In his role as Chairman of the House Committee on the South East Development Commission, Akaliro said he is actively pushing for interventions on environmental challenges, including erosion control, while also advocating for the reconstruction of the Okpara Ring Road.

As Ohuhu people would say, Uzo dị mma agaya mgbelawo—a good road deserves to be walked again. We will not relent until our communities get the infrastructural facelift they deserve,” he stated.

Concluding, the lawmaker reaffirmed his guiding principle that leadership must be measured by tangible impact.
If your presence makes no impact, then your absence will make no difference. That is why every day in office, I work with urgency, because our people deserve results,” Akaliro declared.

Community stakeholders and political observers have praised his record, with many describing his performance as a model for effective opposition leadership. Calls are already mounting for his re-election in 2027.
