Mrs Victoria Mba, mother of a young man, Moses Mba, who was allegedly shot by security operatives in front of the former residence of the Cross River State governor, has vowed to pursue legal redress, decrying government inaction and continued silence more than a month after the tragedy.
Recall that on August 1, 2025, 22-year-old Moses was allegedly shot and beaten by security personnel at Governor Bassey Otu’s former residence in Calabar after attempting to see the governor.
He was later taken to the Naval Reference Hospital, where he underwent surgery but died on August 9 from complications.
The Cross River State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Rasheed Afegbua, had announced plans to carry out an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death—whether it resulted directly from the gunshot wounds or from subsequent complications.
In an emotional interview on Saturday, Moses’s mother, Victoria Mba, expressed deep frustration at the lack of action, broken promises, and what she sees as attempts to buy her silence.
“Last time we had a meeting with these people, they said the governor is not around. Our governor travelled, and my people came from the village, and when we called again, they said the governor will be back on Saturday, and you know nothing has been done.
“So we are planning to sue them. I want my son to be buried. They are not saying anything. They promised to come. They even said they were coming when the governor comes back, and nothing has been done.
