Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has assured that the army barracks under construction in Ikere Ekiti will soon be completed, with over 800 soldiers expected to be deployed to strengthen security across the state.

Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting and Citizens’ Engagement in Ise Ekiti on Thursday, Oyebanji described the barracks as a major step to enhance security, not just in the South Senatorial District but across Ekiti.

He commended the people of Ikere Ekiti for donating land for the project and praised the efforts of the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, in facilitating the establishment of the military base.

“The siting of an Army Barracks in Ikere Ekiti was a means to enhance security not only in the zone, but in the entire state. I commend the roles played by the traditional ruler of the town, the Ogoga, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado and a prominent indigene, the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, in ensuring the takeoff of the military base. I thank the community for providing land for the barracks and I believe the barracks will be completed very soon and more than 800 soldiers will be posted there.

When this is done, the criminal elements will be very far from our state and our security architecture will be further strengthened,” he said.

The governor also lauded communities in the South Senatorial District for providing land for commercial agriculture, noting that the massive land-clearing exercise had reclaimed areas previously used as hideouts by criminals, many of whom had fled the state.

Oyebanji reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, infrastructure renewal and peace. He promised improved welfare for traditional rulers, the resuscitation of the five-kilometre-per-LGA road project, the revisiting of the Omuo Trailers Park, and inclusion of the Olowe Museum project in the 2026 budget.

He added that 435 kilometres of rural roads were already under construction, with plans to extend them to 500 kilometres to boost farm produce evacuation and rural amenities.

“There is no community in Ekiti State that has not felt our impact. And as we are doing our own, our National Assembly members are doing their own. I want to appreciate Senator (Yemi) Adaramodu, Hon. (Femi) Bamisile and Hon. (Adeniyi) Ojuawo for what they have done for the people in all the local government areas in this district and their efforts have complemented what our administration has done in the state,” Oyebanji said.

On politics, the governor urged supporters to maintain peace, assuring that the 2026 governorship election would be conducted without bloodshed.

Spokespersons for communities in the district praised Oyebanji for fulfilling requests made at previous town hall meetings, describing him as “a promise keeper who should be entrusted with a fresh mandate of four years.”

Their new demands include rehabilitation of township roads, electricity extension, provision of transformers, potable water, hospital upgrades, construction of health centres and palaces, fencing of schools, and improved security.
