Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has said the Federal Government will continue to explore the traditional institution for peace-building efforts across the country.
Akume spoke on Saturday during the Igede Agba festival held in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State.
Our correspondent reports that the Igede Agba festival is a cornerstone of agricultural life among the Igede people, who are the third largest tribe in Benue State.
The festival, first held at Ihigile Market in September 1957, has become an annual event as it serves as thanksgiving to God for a successful harvest of yams, which are the most revered crop in the area.
Speaking at the occasion, Akume described the traditional institution as a veritable tool for the present administration to explore to solve development purposes and other sundry issues.
He lauded the Igede traditional council for preserving its rich cultural heritage, which he described as remained a beacon of unity among its sons and daughters.
Akume said, “The traditional institution has remained an instrument for peace, unity and progress, and a veritable tool for our administration to explore to solve development purposes and other sundry issues.
And it serves as critical role in peace-building processes at troubling zones.”
The SGF further reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to all sections of the country and assured that every part of Nigeria will experience rapid growth and development.
He added, “The renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu has been able to touch on every region of the country, with the economy growing on a positive trajectory as both the base and superstructure are accelerating rapidly.
“Your Royal Highness the Adiharu of Igede, CP Oga Ero Rtd. I wish to commend you very specially for hosting yet another successful edition of this rich cultural festival (the Igede Agba new yam festival).”
Akume held that Benue State has benefited immensely from the Tinubu administration with juicy appointments and physical infrastructure.
He mentioned the recent award for the construction of Oju-Ogoja road.
Earlier, the paramount ruler of Igede, Oga Ero, appreciated the president for giving indigenes of the state juicy appointments and the award of the construction of Oju-Ogoja Road.
