The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has warmly welcomed Hon. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, the Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency, to the Labour Party (LP) following his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Aguocha described Akaliro’s defection as a bold and principled step that reflects the growing appeal of the Labour Party under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti. He praised Akaliro for putting the interest of his constituents above partisan wrangling and aligning with what he termed “the true progressive movement” in Abia State.
“I wholeheartedly welcome Hon. Anderson Akaliro, to the Labour Party,” Aguocha stated.
“This is not just a political move but a reaffirmation that Labour Party is indeed the home for true progressives who place people above politics and service above self.”
He went on to commend Akaliro for his courage in leaving a fractured party to embrace a vision of development and accountability, demonstrating that his loyalty is first to his constituents and to Abia State, not to any dysfunctional political platform.
According to Aguocha, Akaliro’s defection will further strengthen the Labour Party’s presence in Abia State and consolidate Governor Otti’s reform-driven government.
“Gov. Alex Otti has rekindled the hope of Abians through transparency, innovation, and people-centred governance. With more principled leaders joining us, Labour Party will continue to deepen its impact and restore dignity to governance in Abia,” he stated.
In conclusion, Hon Aguocha urged other political leaders across the state to emulate Akaliro’s example by aligning with the people’s aspirations rather than personal or partisan interests.
“Our state needs leaders who will rise above petty factionalism and divisive politics. Hon. Akaliro has chosen unity, progress, and accountability. This is a victory not only for Labour Party but for the entire people of Abia State,” Aguocha declared.
