The 2025 Ohuhu Iwa Ji Festival turned into a moment of political significance on Saturday as the Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers honoured Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, with Royal Awards in recognition of his selfless sacrifice and service to the development of Ohuhu land.

The Royal Fathers, who presented the award during the colorful cultural event, went further to give Aguocha their unanimous endorsement for re-election in 2027, describing his two years in office as “impactful, people-centered, and unprecedented in the constituency.”

In a statement, the Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers, lauded Aguocha’s leadership style, noting that his tenure has brought a new sense of belonging to Ohuhu people within the larger Ikwuano/Umuahia constituency.

Hon. Aguocha has proven to be a true son of the soil who does not discriminate in service. His interventions in education, agriculture, and community infrastructure have spoken louder than words. As custodians of tradition, we are proud to give him our blessing for 2027,” he declared.

They also emphasized that the endorsement was a collective decision by the entire traditional council.

This is not politics as usual. It is about rewarding good work and encouraging continuity. Aguocha has shown us that leadership is about service and sacrifice. By honouring him today, we are also sending a message that Ohuhu stands firmly behind him for the future,” he stated.

Speaking after receiving the honour, Hon. Obi Aguocha expressed profound gratitude to the traditional institution for finding him worthy of such recognition.

He assured the people of his unbroken commitment to quality representation, equity, and grassroots development.

This honour humbles me and strengthens my resolve to continue serving our people with sincerity of purpose. I assure you all that my voice in the National Assembly will remain loud in defense of our collective interests,” Aguocha said.

He further commended the Ohuhu Welfare Union Youth Wing for initiating the Back-to-Farm project, pledging his continued support for agricultural empowerment and community-driven initiatives.

“Our constituency has great potential in agriculture, and I will continue to partner with our youths to revive farming as both a cultural heritage and an economic driver,” he added.

The event drew a large crowd of sons and daughters of Ohuhu, cultural troupes, political stakeholders, and youth groups, all of whom cheered the Royal Fathers’ open declaration of support. Many described it as a landmark moment that strengthens the bond between the elected representative and his constituents.
