The Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education by sensitizing students on the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) program and awarding scholarships to 50 students.
The sensitization meeting, held in Umuahia, brought together students eager to learn about the opportunities presented by the Federal Government’s education loan initiative.
Hon. Akaliro described the NELFUND scheme as a transformative tool for young people who aspire to pursue higher education but lack financial backing.
“This program is a golden opportunity that every student should embrace,” he said. “The Federal Government created NELFUND to ensure that no Nigerian child is denied education because of financial constraints. It is my duty as your representative to guide you in accessing this life-changing support.”
Beyond the awareness campaign, the lawmaker demonstrated his personal commitment to education by awarding scholarships to 50 students at the Federal College of Education, Ofeme. He explained that the scholarships were part of his vision of making education not just accessible but sustainable for young people in his constituency.
“I know the struggles many families face in paying school fees,” Hon. Akaliro stated.
“My goal is to ensure that no promising student is forced to abandon their dreams due to lack of funds. These scholarships are my way of saying that education remains a priority in Umuahia North.”
He further reassured students that his constituency office remains open to provide assistance in navigating the processes of the NELFUND program.
According to him, his team has been mandated to guide students who may face challenges with applications or documentation.
“My office is your office,” he told the students. “Whenever you encounter difficulties in accessing NELFUND, come to us. We will not leave you to struggle alone.”
Encouraging the sons and daughters of Ohuhu, the lawmaker stressed the importance of using education as a ladder to personal and communal progress.
“You are the future leaders of our community,” he emphasized.
“What you achieve today will determine what Ohuhu becomes tomorrow. That is why you must seize this opportunity and pursue your education with seriousness.”
Hon. Akaliro concluded his address by underlining the vital role education plays in national development.
“Education is the growth of any community and the foundation upon which the greatness of a nation is built,” he declared. “This is why I will continue to invest in it and advocate for policies that empower our students.”
With his combined efforts in scholarship provision and NELFUND sensitization, Hon. Akaliro has positioned himself as a strong advocate of youth empowerment and educational growth in Umuahia North.
