FG Has Shown No Evidence Against Nnamdi Kanu, Blaming Him for Crimes He Didn’t Commit makes no sense — Hon Obi Aguocha

The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has cautioned against the growing trend of blaming the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for crimes and killings in the South East, which evidence has not been presented by the FG or State.

Hon. Aguocha, who has been a consistent voice advocating for peace, justice, and reconciliation in the South East, said it was completely misleading to associate ongoing acts of criminality with someone who has been in detention for years.

He pointed out that since no concrete evidence has been presented by the Federal or State Government against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, it is unjust to continue holding him responsible for crimes he did not commit

“There has been no evidence linking him to these acts, yet some people have resorted to social media trials and propaganda,” he said.

“We must stop the social media trial and allow justice and fairness to prevail. We are simply asking for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, it is unjust to continue holding him responsible for crimes he did not commit.”

According to Aguocha, such claims not only distort the truth but also fuel the insecurity and mistrust that continue to plague the region.

“A lot of false stories have been going around lately, blaming Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for killings in the South East. The truth is that criminals and kidnappers are exploiting his detention to unleash chaos and hide under his name. This must stop,” he added.

Obi Aguocha emphasized that many of the violent attacks and kidnappings in the region are the handiwork of opportunists taking advantage of the leadership vacuum created by Kanu’s detention. He noted that the longer the government delays in addressing the root cause of the problem, the worse the insecurity becomes.

“It is completely wrong and misleading to say that Nnamdi Kanu, who has been detained for years, is behind these crimes,” he continued. “We must get the facts straight and unite to demand his freedom so that peace can return to the South East.”

The federal lawmaker has repeatedly called for Kanu’s unconditional release as a strategic step toward restoring calm and fostering genuine dialogue. He maintained that detaining Kanu indefinitely serves no purpose other than deepening resentment and complicating peace efforts.

“Releasing Nnamdi Kanu is not just an act of mercy; it is a necessary step toward stabilizing the southeast,” Aguocha stressed. “We cannot continue to criminalize an entire movement or its leader based on the actions of faceless criminals who are exploiting the situation.”

Hon. Aguocha urged both the federal government and southeast stakeholders to work together in promoting truth, justice, and reconciliation rather than scapegoating.

He concluded by calling for renewed unity and collective responsibility among the people of the South East, emphasizing that sustainable peace can only be achieved through truth and fairness.

“This is not the time for false accusations,” he said. “It is the time for collective reflection and sincere action. We must rise above propaganda and build the peace our people desperately need.”
