In a passionate call for national renewal, former Abia State governorship candidate and founder of the OAU foundation, Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU), has declared that Nigeria can rise again if the nation embraces honest and selfless leadership at all levels.

Speaking during an interaction with newsmen in Umuahia, OAU emphasized that the country’s challenges are not insurmountable but are largely rooted in leadership failure and moral decay.

According to him, the Nigerian people are industrious, creative, and resilient, but poor leadership has hindered their collective progress.
Nigeria is not suffering from a lack of resources or potential,” OAU said. “What we lack is honest leadership, leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal enrichment and political ambition.”

He stressed that the foundation of any great nation lies in the integrity of its leaders and the moral consciousness of its citizens.

Every time we elect or appoint dishonest leaders, we delay our national progress,” OAU continued.
The future of Nigeria depends on how sincerely we can rebuild trust, restore accountability, and return governance to the people.”

OAU further noted that honesty in leadership should not only be demanded from politicians but practiced by citizens in their daily lives.
Honesty must become a national culture,” he remarked.
From the market woman who measures goods fairly, to the public servant who refuses bribes, every honest act contributes to nation-building. Leadership begins with each of us.”

Akym urged Nigerian youths to rise above ethnic and partisan divisions, insisting that unity and truth must guide their political choices.
We cannot continue to vote based on sentiment and expect transformation,” OAU stated.
It is time for the younger generation to champion integrity-driven leadership, to hold leaders accountable and to become the honest leaders our country desperately needs.

OAU also called on government institutions to strengthen mechanisms for transparency and ethical governance.
We must move from lip service to action,” he said.
Public office should be a trust, not a business venture. The fight against corruption must be consistent and free from political bias if Nigeria must regain her global respect.”

In conclusion, OAU expressed optimism that Nigeria’s best days are still ahead if leaders and citizens collectively embrace honesty, humility, and hard work.
I believe in this country,” he stated. “Nigeria can rise again. But that rise will not come from promises, it will come from principled leadership that serves with truth and love for the people.”
