The Osun State Government has announced that a Turkish furniture company will soon commence production in the state, and that its efforts to get foreign investors to set up businesses in the state were beginning to yield positive results.
This was disclosed in Osogbo on Wednesday by the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Bunmi Jenyo, while unveiling a document that provides information about the organisation and investment opportunities that will be available in the forthcoming 2025 Osun Trade Fair.
Jenyo, who said another United Kingdom-based company had approached the government to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, maintained that the Ademola Adeleke administration would continue to push for foreign investment in the state to create jobs and get a market for the available raw materials.
The Commissioner, who challenged local business operators in the state to avail themselves of the opportunities that the influx of foreign investors into Osun would create, assured them of the government’s readiness to provide a conducive environment and policies designed to stimulate business growth.
There is a company here now; the Managing Director of the company is here from the United Kingdom to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government.
“Also, a Turkish company that is into furniture production is coming to Nigeria, and they want to base in Osun. The reason for coming to Osun is that most of the materials they were using are being produced in Nigeria. That is why they decided to move their production here.
“We are finalising their MOU, and they have guaranteed us that they will employ nothing less than 500 people in that factory. They are going to start before the end of the year. Our efforts to get foreign investors are yielding the expected result,” Jenyo said.
Earlier, while presenting the document for the trade fair with the theme ‘Positioning local content for global market’ to the Commissioner, the chairman of the Trade Fair Committee, David Awotipe, explained that the event is open to “Nano, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, large scale business organisation, financial institutions, educational research institutions, as well as all local government areas in the state.”
Highlighting some of the objectives of the fair, Awotipe said the event would promote the industrial and commercial potentials of Osun to the global market, adding that it would also provide an avenue for commerce and industry to show their contribution to the economic growth and development of the state.
He further said the fair would expose and promote local content of locally made products and agriculture, mining and tourism for global market.
The news of a Turkish furniture company bringing investment into the state to commence production is coming just after the State hosted a dinner and industrial investment roundtable organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
