Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency to improve disaster response and resilience across the state.

Lawal gave the assurance on Monday at the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and the launch of NEMA’s strategic framework held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, said Vice President Kashim Shettima led the official launch of NEMA’s Strategic Plan (2025–2029), Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy (2025–2030), and Action Plan (2025–2028) during the event, themed “Fund Resilience, Not Disaster.”

In his goodwill message, Governor Lawal commended NEMA for its leadership in disaster management and for convening stakeholders to discuss sustainable funding models for emergency response and risk reduction.

The governor noted that Zamfara State continues to face multiple disasters and emergencies ranging from insecurity, flooding, mining shaft collapses, and fire outbreaks to the impacts of climate change.

“Through it all, we can always count on NEMA to be there as part of the management, recovery, and mitigation efforts,” Lawal said, expressing gratitude to the agency for its interventions in the state.

He also revealed that the Zamfara Emergency Management Agency has been granted greater powers to strengthen its emergency response capacity. According to him, the state government is integrating disaster risk management into governance through early warning systems, community engagement, and institutional reforms.

Lawal appreciated President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their leadership and support, as well as NEMA’s Director-General, Zubaida Umar, and her team for their continued assistance to Zamfara.
