The Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has appealed to residents of Umuahia South and the entire Southeast to remain calm, peaceful, and prayerful as the nation continues to follow developments surrounding the case of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Obioma made the appeal in a statement issued on Friday, urging citizens to embrace restraint and avoid actions or rhetoric capable of heightening tension in the region. According to him, moments like this require collective wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in God’s ability to direct the affairs of the nation.

Speaking further, he called for unity of purpose among the people, stressing that emotional reactions, anger, or panic-driven responses would not serve the long-term interest of the Southeast.

I understand the pain and anxiety many of our people feel at this time, but we must not allow emotions to push us into actions that could harm our collective peace,” Obioma said. “What the Southeast needs now is calmness, understanding, and continuous prayers as we hope for a favourable resolution.

Obioma also urged religious leaders, community stakeholders, and youth groups to guide their members towards peace-oriented engagements. He emphasized that the region has always been known for its resilience and ability to overcome difficult situations through collective strength and faith.

In times of uncertainty, prayer remains our strongest weapon. I urge all our people to continue praying for peace, wisdom for our leaders, and a just outcome in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he added. “We must believe that God is still in control, and that a peaceful and fair resolution is possible.

The lawmaker further expressed confidence that increased calm across the region would allow national institutions and ongoing legal processes to progress without undue pressure or violence. He reminded citizens that the stability of the Southeast depends on their choices during sensitive periods such as this.

Let us show the world that the Southeast is committed to peace, irrespective of the circumstances. Our strength as a people lies in our ability to maintain dignity, prayerfulness, and unity even in challenging times,” Obioma said.
