The Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Professor Ayo Omotayo, has emphasised the crucial role of Northern Christian youths in achieving peace and promoting accountability in the region.
Omotayo made the remarks at a high-level consultative meeting in Jos, Plateau State, where Christian leaders and youths from across Northern Nigeria gathered to deliberate on governance and security.
The event, which took place on Monday, also focused on the role of Christians in shaping the North’s political and social future.
Omotayo said, “It is inspiring to see young Christian leaders taking proactive steps toward peace and governance in the North,
The Executive Secretary of the Christian Pilgrims Commission, Bishop Stephen Victor Adegbite, also spoke at the meeting, emphasising the Church’s role in shaping ethical governance.
The Church has a crucial role in shaping ethical governance. By mentoring leaders and encouraging political engagement, we can ensure our communities flourish in peace, unity, and justice,” Adegbite noted.
The meeting later came up with key resolutions that included the strengthening of community-driven security initiatives, promoting ethical political engagement, and fostering unity between Christians and Muslims.
The Chairman of the Northern Youth Group, led by Kangpe Istifanus, expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and pledged support for his 2027 re-election bid.
“Participants also resolved to sustain engagement through a Northern Christian Political Forum, which will coordinate future actions and ensure continuous dialogue on governance, security, and socio-political development in the region.
“This collective commitment by Northern Christian youths signals a renewed dedication to ethical leadership, civic responsibility, and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria,” the chairman stressed.
