Umuahia, Abia State |December 18, 2025 —
The Abia Youth Assembly has declared its support for the 2027 governorship aspiration of Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu, describing him as a leader with the versatility, experience, and character required to move the state forward.
The endorsement was made during a well-attended youth consultative forum in Umuahia, where members of the Assembly reviewed the current leadership challenges facing Abia and outlined their expectations for the future.
On behalf of the Assembly, the Speaker, Comrade Daniel Kalu, said the youths of Abia are increasingly drawn to leaders who understand governance beyond politics and are capable of translating ideas into action. He noted that Mascot Uzor-Kalu’s background in public administration, business, and community engagement places him in a strong position to offer inclusive and effective leadership.
According to the Assembly, Abia needs a governor who can manage people, institutions, and resources with competence and empathy.
The Youth Assembly stressed that versatility in leadership is critical at a time when the state is grappling with unemployment, weak institutions, and economic uncertainty. They noted that Mascot’s ideas on youth empowerment, economic diversification, and transparent governance align with the aspirations of young people across the state. Members of the Assembly said his consistent emphasis on service, accountability, and people-centred policies has distinguished him in the political space.
Recall that Mascot Uzor-Kalu had reiterated that his aspiration is anchored on building a state that works for everyone, especially young people. He emphasized that leadership must be adaptable and responsive to changing realities. He also stated that youth inclusion would remain a priority in his governance philosophy. According to him, policies on education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and innovation must be designed to prepare young people for a competitive future.
Members of the Abia Youth Assembly concluded by calling on other political stakeholders to embrace issue-based politics and support leadership that prioritises competence over rhetoric.
They expressed optimism that with the right leadership, Abia can unlock its vast potential and create a future where young people are active participants in governance and development.
