ABIA |December 18, 2025 —

Philanthropist, Politician and founder of the OAU Foundation, Hon Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU), has commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, for what he described as a clear and measurable translation of campaign promises into concrete actions across the state.

Akym Uche gave the commendation while assessing the performance of the current administration, noting that Abians can now see and feel the impact of governance in key sectors of the economy. He said the Otti-led government has demonstrated that leadership is not about rhetoric but about results that directly improve the lives of the people.

Gov Alex Otti made specific promises to the people during the campaign, and what we are witnessing today is that those promises have translated heavily into action,” he said.

This is the kind of leadership Nigerians have been yearning for; leadership that matches words with work.

Akym pointed to visible infrastructural renewal across Aba, Umuahia and other parts of the state, improved urban sanitation, and the restoration of confidence in public institutions as evidence that Abia is experiencing a new governance culture anchored on accountability and competence.

Abians are no longer asking what government is doing because they can see it,” he stated. “From road rehabilitation to improved environmental management and renewed attention to public facilities, there is a deliberate effort to fix what was broken and to do things properly.”

OAU also praised the administration’s approach to fiscal discipline and transparency, describing it as a major departure from the past. According to him, the prudent management of public resources has created room for sustainable development and restored public trust in government.

What impresses me most is the seriousness with which public funds are being handled,” he said. “When resources are managed transparently, development follows naturally. Gov Otti has shown that governance can be clean, responsible and effective.”

The former Abia State Guber candidate further noted that the renewed focus on service delivery has rekindled hope among residents, particularly youths and small business owners who form the backbone of the state’s economy. He stressed that purposeful leadership is essential to easing the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Leadership is meaningless if it does not reduce the suffering of the people,” Akym Uche said. “What we are seeing in Abia today gives hope that governance can truly be about the people and not about personal or political interests.”

While urging the state government to sustain the momentum, Onyekwere Akym Uche called on other political leaders across the country to take a cue from Abia’s example by ensuring that campaign promises are treated as a sacred contract with the people.

Campaign promises are not mere slogans; they are commitments,” he said. “Governor Otti has shown that it is possible to honor those commitments. That is the standard Nigerians should demand from anyone seeking public office.”

He reaffirmed his support for people-oriented governance, stressing that accountability, consistency and empathy must remain the guiding principles of leadership at all levels. According to him, the progress recorded in Abia should serve as a reminder that when leaders are sincere, development is achievable.

Abia is showing that a new Nigeria is possible,” Akym Uche concluded. “When leaders mean what they say and do what they promise, the people will always feel the difference.
