Umuahia, Abia state |December 26, 2025 —
The Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has urged constituents to embrace the true essence of Boxing Day by promoting charity, unity, and togetherness, stressing that compassion and shared responsibility remain vital for building strong and resilient communities.
Speaking, Hon. Akaliro described the day as a solemn reminder of humanity’s shared bond and the need to care for one another, particularly the less privileged and vulnerable members of society.
“Boxing Day speaks to our collective conscience,” Akaliro said. “It reminds us that society is at its best when we look out for one another and extend a helping hand to those in need.”
He noted that beyond the celebrations, the season offers an opportunity for reflection on the values that sustain peaceful coexistence and social harmony. According to him, acts of kindness and generosity help to bridge social divides and reinforce the spirit of togetherness that communities require to thrive.
“Charity is not just about giving material things,” he stated. “It is about sharing love, time, and understanding. When we come together in unity, we lay the foundation for lasting peace and development.”
Hon. Akaliro called on individuals, families, community leaders, and organisations to take deliberate steps to support the less privileged, especially during the festive period when economic pressures can be overwhelming for many households.
“The joy of the season should be inclusive,” he added. “Our widows, orphans, the elderly, and those facing hardship should feel the warmth of community and the assurance that they are not alone.”
Reaffirming his commitment to people-oriented leadership, the lawmaker pledged to continue supporting initiatives that enhance social welfare, promote inclusiveness, and uplift communities across Umuahia North.
“As a representative of the people, my focus remains on policies and actions that foster unity and improve the quality of life of our citizens,” Akaliro said. “Togetherness is our strength, and through collective effort, we can build a more compassionate society.”
He concluded by wishing constituents a peaceful and joyful celebration, expressing hope that the values of charity, unity, and mutual support would extend beyond the festive season and guide everyday interactions within communities.
