Hon. Obi Aguocha Warns Public Against Fake Social Media Accounts, Scam Messages

December 15, 2025 —

The Office of Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, has issued a strong public warning over the proliferation of fake social media accounts impersonating the lawmaker to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

In an online media release dated December 14, 2025, the Office disclosed that fraudulent individuals have created counterfeit Facebook and Instagram profiles bearing the name “Hon. Obi Aguocha” and similar variations. These impostors, according to the statement, have been privately messaging citizens while making false claims of offering employment opportunities in exchange for money.

The Office described the activities of the scammers as deliberate, deceptive, and criminal, noting that several individuals have been targeted with demands for fees under the guise of job placement and other benefits allegedly linked to the Honourable Member. It emphasised that such actions are entirely false and should not be entertained under any circumstances.

Members of the public were strongly advised to ignore, block, and immediately report any suspicious messages or friend requests from accounts claiming to represent Hon. Obi Aguocha but requesting money or personal information. The statement stressed that engaging with such accounts exposes individuals to financial loss and identity theft.

For the avoidance of doubt, Hon. Obi Aguocha does not solicit financial payments for services, jobs, or employment opportunities,” the Office stated. “Any request for money in his name is fraudulent and should be treated as a scam.”

To curb further deception, the Office clearly identified the only verified and official Facebook page of Hon. Obi Aguocha and urged constituents and the general public to rely solely on authorised channels for information, announcements, and interactions related to the lawmaker.

The media release further warned that impersonation and online fraud constitute criminal offences punishable under applicable cybercrime and fraud laws in Nigeria. It added that the Honourable Member reserves the right to pursue legal action against individuals found impersonating him or soliciting funds under false pretence.

The Office reaffirmed Hon. Obi Aguocha’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and the protection of his constituents, urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspected cases of impersonation to the appropriate authorities.

The statement was signed by the Media Team of Hon. Obi Aguocha.
