The Founder of the OAU Foundation, Hon Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU), has described Boxing Day as a profound reminder of compassion, human dignity, and shared responsibility, calling on Nigerians to embrace the enduring values of giving, unity, and gratitude as the festive season continues.

In a Boxing Day message made available to the media on Friday, OAU noted that the significance of Boxing Day transcends merriment, stressing that it presents a moral opportunity for individuals and communities to reaffirm their commitment to humanity and social cohesion.

Boxing Day speaks to the very essence of our shared humanity,” OAU said. “It reminds us that every person, regardless of status or circumstance, deserves dignity, care, and respect. When we give to others, we affirm their worth and strengthen the bonds that hold our society together.”

He emphasized that compassion remains a powerful tool for healing social divisions and addressing inequality, particularly at a time when many families are grappling with economic hardship. According to him, genuine acts of kindness; whether through material support, encouragement, or service, can restore hope and inspire resilience.

Giving is not measured by how much we offer, but by the sincerity of our hearts,” he stated. “A kind word, a helping hand, or a shared meal can uplift a soul and remind someone that they are not forgotten.”

Akym also called for unity across ethnic, religious, and social lines, urging Nigerians to see diversity as a strength rather than a source of division. He noted that peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding remain essential for sustainable development and national progress.

Our differences should never divide us,” he said. “Boxing Day challenges us to rise above prejudice and embrace one another as brothers and sisters, bound by a common destiny.”

Highlighting the importance of gratitude, the OAU Foundation founder encouraged citizens to reflect on their blessings and express appreciation for life, family, and community. He explained that gratitude fosters contentment, humility, and a deeper sense of responsibility toward others.

When we are grateful, we become more compassionate,” OAU added. “Gratitude helps us recognize that what we have is not solely for ourselves but also for the service of humanity.”

Reaffirming the mission of the OAU Foundation, he pledged continued commitment to humanitarian outreach, youth empowerment, and community development initiatives aimed at uplifting the vulnerable and promoting social justice.

As an organisation rooted in service, we will continue to stand with the less privileged,” he said. “Our goal is to build communities where compassion is practiced daily and where human dignity is protected and celebrated.”

He concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful Boxing Day, expressing hope that the lessons of generosity, unity, and gratitude would extend beyond the festive season and shape everyday conduct in homes, communities, and public life.
