The Member representing Isiukwuato State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, has called on his constituents and Nigerians at large to embrace the enduring values of charity, unity, and shared responsibility as they mark this year’s Boxing Day.
In a goodwill message released on Friday, Hon. Johnson described Boxing Day as a period that goes beyond celebration, noting that it serves as a timely reminder of the need for compassion, selflessness, and collective commitment to the welfare of others, particularly the less privileged in society.
“Boxing Day offers us an opportunity to reflect on the true essence of humanity,” Johnson said. “It is a day that calls us to look beyond ourselves and extend love, care, and support to those who are struggling to make ends meet.”
He stressed that the strength of any society lies in the willingness of its people to support one another, especially in challenging times. According to him, acts of kindness, no matter how small, can have far-reaching impacts on individuals and communities.
“Our communities thrive when we stand together,” he stated. “Charity should not be seen as an occasional gesture but as a way of life. When we share what we have, we foster unity and build trust among ourselves.”
Hon. Johnson further urged community leaders, youth groups, faith-based organisations, and well-meaning individuals to use the Boxing Day season to renew their commitment to service and social responsibility. He emphasized that unity remains the bedrock for peace, progress, and sustainable development at both the grassroots and state levels.
“Unity is our greatest strength,” he added. “Regardless of our differences, we must continue to work together for the common good. Shared responsibility means understanding that development is not the duty of government alone but of every citizen.”
Reaffirming his dedication to the welfare of Isiukwuato constituents, the lawmaker pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, promoting social inclusion, and empowering vulnerable groups across the constituency.
“As your representative, I remain committed to policies and actions that uplift our people,” Johnson said. “Together, through unity and compassion, we can build a constituency where everyone feels valued and supported.”
