The conferment of the prestigious Ogwumabiri Umuahia South chieftaincy title on the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has been described as a moment of honour, solidarity, and renewed commitment to justice for Ndi Igbo.
The colourful ceremony, which took place in Umuahia South, attracted traditional leaders, political stakeholders, community members, and over 500 supporters drawn from the Obi Aguocha Frontliners across the local government area.
The traditional honour was bestowed in recognition of Hon. Aguocha’s consistent advocacy for equity, justice, and the protection of Igbo interests at the national level. The event quickly transformed into a massive gathering of solidarity, as supporters hailed the lawmaker for what they described as fearless representation and unwavering commitment to speaking truth to power.
Speaking during the celebration, Hon. Aguocha expressed deep gratitude to the traditional institution and the people of Umuahia South for the recognition, noting that the title came with enormous responsibility.
“I receive this chieftaincy title with humility and gratitude. Ogwumabiri is not just a name. It is a call to defend our people, protect their dignity, and speak boldly against injustice wherever it exists,” Aguocha said.
The federal lawmaker dedicated the honour to Ndi Igbo and reaffirmed his determination to continue advocating against the marginalisation of the region. He specifically restated his position on the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as a matter of justice and equity.
“This honour strengthens my resolve to continue speaking against the marginalisation of Ndi Igbo and to demand justice for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Silence in the face of injustice is not an option for me,” he declared.
Hon. Aguocha further noted that the overwhelming turnout of supporters reflected the shared aspirations of the people.
“Seeing over 500 members of the Obi Aguocha Frontliners gathered here today tells me that our struggle is collective. This is not about one man. It is about a people determined to secure fairness, inclusion, and respect within the Nigerian project,” he stated.
He assured his supporters that his advocacy would remain anchored on peace, dialogue, and constitutional engagement, while maintaining firmness in defending Igbo interests.
“Our approach will always be principled and lawful, but we will never retreat from demanding what is rightfully ours. I will continue to use every legitimate platform available to me to amplify the voice of Ndi Igbo,” Aguocha added.
The celebration featured goodwill messages from community leaders and political allies, many of whom described the Ogwumabiri title as well deserved.
As the event concluded, supporters reaffirmed their confidence in Hon. Aguocha’s leadership, expressing optimism that the chieftaincy honour would further strengthen his role as a strong voice for justice, equity, and Igbo unity at the national level.
