The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has praised the organisers of the Umuahia South Cultural Festival while confirming his full support and participation in the forthcoming event.
Hon. Obioma made this known when he received a delegation from Umuahia South Local Government Area, led by the Mayor, Engr. Chinedu Enwereuzo, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally invite him to the cultural festival scheduled to hold on December 28 and 29. The visit, according to the delegation, was aimed at securing the lawmaker’s endorsement and presence at the event, which is designed to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the people of Umuahia South.
Welcoming the delegation, Hon. Obioma expressed delight at the initiative, describing the festival as a unifying platform that reflects the history, values, and collective identity of the people. He noted that cultural festivals play a critical role in preserving traditions and strengthening communal bonds, especially at a time when social cohesion remains vital for development.
“This cultural festival is a celebration of who we are as a people,” Obioma said. “It provides an opportunity for our communities to come together, showcase our heritage, and pass our values to the younger generation. I am happy to associate myself with such a laudable initiative.”
The lawmaker assured the delegation of his total support, pledging to actively participate in activities lined up for the festival. He emphasized that his office would continue to support initiatives that promote unity, peace, and cultural pride across Umuahia South.
“I want to assure you that I will give my full support to ensure the success of this festival,” he stated.
“Beyond my presence, I am committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to see that this event achieves its objectives and leaves a lasting positive impact on our people.”
Hon. Obioma also commended the Mayor, Engr. Enwereuzo, and members of the organizing committee for their foresight and commitment to promoting the cultural identity of Umuahia South. He described the festival as timely and well-conceived, noting that such initiatives help reinforce a shared sense of belonging among Ndi Umuahia South.
“I commend the Mayor and the entire organizing committee for taking this bold step to celebrate our culture and traditions,” Obioma added. “It is through efforts like this that we strengthen unity and remind ourselves of the values that bind us together as one people.”
Earlier, Engr. Enwereuzo explained that the Umuahia South Cultural Festival would feature traditional dances, cultural displays, exhibitions, and other activities aimed at showcasing the diversity and richness of the area’s cultural heritage. He expressed appreciation to Hon. Obioma for his consistent support for community-driven initiatives and his readiness to identify with the people at all times.
